Volunteers make it possible for us to improve the lives of at-risk children and youth. Help us make a positive difference in the lives of our children, by donating your time and experience. The following are the areas of need for volunteers. Please e-mail volunteer@friendsofthechildren.org if you are interested in helping out.

Customer Service Floor Engagement
Friends of the Children is proud to lead a new collaborative called the Million Books for Kids Project in the Portland Metropolitan area.  We need volunteer customer service help.
To volunteer contact: Marsena Holsopple at 503.281.6633 or mholsopple@friendsofthechildren.org

Events Support

Friends of the Children-Portland hosts or participates in four major fundraising events annually. You can support an event by joining a committee to assist in the coordinating and planning, or volunteer the day of an event.

Administrative Assistance
We need reliable help with administrative work. Helping for a few hours with various office tasks means we are able to save time and money that can go to our children.

Camp Friends
Camp Friends affords our children an opportunity for summer enrichment activities and a focus on building academic skills during the summer. You or your team can help by reading one-on-one or with small groups of elementary-aged children. July 18 - 29, 2011

School Supplies Drive
In partnership with KATU Channel 2, Friends runs a school supplies drive for its more than 350 children. Employees can get involved by leading a school supplies drive at a particular corporate location or department, providing drop sites for the school drive or assisting with the school supply sorting process.

Annual Holiday Gift Drive
Assist Friends of the Children in doing all that we can to ensure that our families are provided for during the traditional holiday season and feel a sense of community support. You and your team of employees can get involved by leading a toy drive at the office, adopting a family or families for the holidays or helping us transport and sort toys.

Bowl-a-Thon
Put together a team or teams for this fun fundraising event! Collect pledges to raise money and awareness for Friends of the Children and come out and bowl to see who can get the highest score.

Summer Internship Program

In 2010, Friends of the Children placed 32 of our adolescents with Portland-area companies for a 55-hour work experience over six weeks and provided 30 hours of job and life skills training workshops. Host one of our interns at your company this summer!
